Don’t Hate The Player, Hate The Game

A recent discussion with a fellow Apple-admirer prompted this post. I’ve noticed a growing trend in the current world of technology. There are those that buy, and those that review. The problem now is that those that review don’t always buy.

I’m a hardcore Apple fan. I am truly in awe of their business plan and while I love what they have produced and continue to produce I’m realistic in the fact that they are not perfect. I feel like some people like Apple because it’s cool. Well, yeah. It is cool, but I respect them for more than the logo.

Anyway, the iPhone 3G. I feel like I need to address it. It hasn’t even come out yet, and for weeks I’ve heard people on both sides of the fence. There are three kinds of people that are buying the iPhone 3G.

a) People who own the 1st Generation iPhone

b) People who were “waiting for the next one” and have decided it’s time

c) People who are new to the iPhone craze

There are also three kinds of people who are NOT buying the iPhone 3G.

a) People who own the 1st Generation iPhone

b) People who consider the iPhone 3G entirely new and are now “waiting for the next one”

c) People who are against the iPhone craze

I really don’t know where I’m going with this post. It’s 3AM and I’m really bored. I was just reading some posts on Macrumors and I realized that people just love to complain. It got me kind of angry. Regardless of how you might feel about it specifically, those that complain have to admit that Apple has this unique ability to put a soul into their products and generate such hype and such a following that they sell for the sheer fact that so many people care.

Think about it. AT&T’s website has a dedicated iPhone page, dedicated iPhone representatives, an iPhone section and four tutorial videos on how to upgrade, purchase, etc. Has there ever been anything else that prompted such a response? No.

My point: Well, I don’t know if I have one really. Just that it bugs me when people let their own ignorance cloud the truth of something. It’s those same people that go to a five-star restaurant and have a great meal but complain because the plate was chipped or something rediculous.

Further proof of 3G. In the latest SDK Beta Release (currently number 5), a developed found and unlocked a string of code that would enable or disable 3G communications. The point of this is to save battery life, which will drain faster with 3G communications enable. This provides further proof that Apple is working on a 3G iPhone.

No More iPhones? Adding to the recent speculation that the Apple iPhone will be updated at the Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco this coming June, Apple’s online store now shows that both the 8GB and 16GB iPhone are unavailable. This news comes just days after O2 (the European iPhone provider that serves Britain, Ireland, etc.) announced that they no longer had iPhones in stock. This could be a supply problem, but this just adds to the speculation of the new iPhone.
